Nnamdi Kanu’s wife denies divorce reports, mocks speculation on social media
Uchechi Kanu, wife of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has dismissed reports claiming she has filed for divorce from her husband, describing the speculation as unfounded.
Reacting on her verified X account, Uchechi ridiculed the reports with a series of laughing emojis, indicating she was surprised by the claims circulating online.
“I have just learned that I filed for divorce while my husband is in prison,” she wrote. “Good conscious evening, my blessed Biafrans.”
Her response came after reports surfaced alleging that she had decided to end the marriage over claims of infidelity, financial neglect and interference from members of Kanu’s family.

The reports further alleged that the marriage, said to have begun in 2009, had come under strain over the years due to alleged extramarital relationships involving the IPOB leader.
They also claimed that Kanu allegedly had a relationship with a woman identified as Chioma Amaryllis Ahaghotu before his arrest in 2015. According to the reports, the woman reportedly believed he was unmarried at the time and allegedly provided him with financial support before ending the relationship after discovering what she considered a pattern of deception.
However, none of the allegations contained in the reports has been independently verified, and Uchechi Kanu’s public statement is the only direct response so far.
Neither Nnamdi Kanu nor any member of his legal team has publicly addressed the allegations.
Kanu remains in the custody of the Federal Government as legal proceedings over terrorism-related charges against him continue. His case has remained one of Nigeria’s most closely watched legal and political matters.
