NNPCL hikes petrol price as Dangote expands free delivery to Abuja
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, at its retail outlets in Abuja and surrounding areas.
A market survey conducted on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, showed that NNPCL filling stations were selling petrol at N1,270 per litre, representing a N20 increase from the previous price of N1,250 per litre.
The latest price adjustment comes despite the Dangote Refinery’s expansion of its free petrol delivery initiative to 10 destinations across the country, including Abuja, with the product reportedly supplied at N1,185 per litre.
The development has further widened the price disparity between NNPCL outlets and several other filling stations in the Federal Capital Territory and its environs.
Findings showed that petrol sold by NNPCL was between N15 and N40 per litre more expensive than prices at outlets operated by MRS, Geregu, Ranoil, Emedab, Mobil and other marketers in the area.

However, some filling stations, including Empire and AA Rano, were selling petrol at higher prices ranging from N1,275 to N1,299 per litre.
Consequently, motorists and other consumers in Abuja and neighbouring areas are currently purchasing petrol at prices ranging between N1,230 and N1,299 per litre, depending on the filling station.
The NNPCL price increase also comes amid a decline in international crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading at about $88.80 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) at approximately $81.86 per barrel at the time of reporting.
The contrasting developments have continued to fuel questions over the factors driving domestic petrol prices, particularly as local refining capacity expands and international crude prices fluctuate.
For motorists and households, the latest adjustment means higher transportation and operating costs, with the potential to further affect the prices of goods and services across the country.
