North Korea supports Russia, accuses US of causing Ukraine crisis
North Korea on Saturday defended Russian invasion of Ukraine last Thursday, berating the United States as the “root cause of the Ukraine crisis”. North Korea subtly disclosed support for Russia in its first official reaction to the invasion of Ukraine.
North Korea, in a commentary posted on the Foreign Ministry’s website, asserted that the United States is to blame for the ongoing Ukraine war.
The commentary uploaded on North Korea’s foreign ministry website on Saturday, attributed to Ri Ji Song, a researcher at the North’s Society for International Politics Study, was cited to have declared: Washington has pursued “military supremacy in disregard of the legitimate demand of Russia for its security.
“The root cause of the Ukrainian crisis also lies in the high-handedness and arbitrariness of the US.”
Ri Ji Song scolded the US for playing “double standard” international politics. Song protested that the US meddles in the internal affairs of other countries in the name of “peace and stability” but “but it denounces for no good reason self-defensive measures taken by other countries to ensure their own national security.”
Song declared, “Gone are the days when the U.S. used to reign supreme.”
In less than 24 hours of the post, North Korea tested a ballistic missile in the Sea off the coast of Japan on Sunday.
China had earlier attributed the Ukraine war to the US undermining Russia’s security.
