Obaseki approves CSOs for Local Governments in Edo, defines roles
During the just concluded seminar organised for Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, SLGs, the Executive Governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki approved the creation of the office of the Chief Security Officer to Local Government
The guest speaker who spoke at the seminar took out time to stress on the qualities and function of the CSO as approved by Governor Godwin Obaseki
The duties as approved include: To coordinate and collaborate with all the security agencies within the council; To perform security threat assessment of the whole communities under the local government council; To ensure the security of his principal, other principals and their properties within the council premises by implementing security measures and policies that will safeguard the local government.

Others are: To maintain a reservoir of intelligence gathering with the purpose of sharing same with his principal and security agencies and to liase with the security agencies in the local government to ensure a crime free local government
He also highlighted the qualities of the CSO as approved by Mr. Governor to include: that he must have a vast knowledge of the local government; must be of sound mind with intelligence, Must not have any criminal record in this name in the past and must be someone who can strategize and must be ethical in all his doings.
The office of the CSO is such a crucial one since the office serves as a link between the chief security officer of the local government, that is the Executive Chairman and relevant security agencies.
