Obaseki explains why Edo govt denied Peter Obi Ogbemudia Stadium for campaign
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has explained why on Edo State government denied Peter Obi the use of
Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City for the presidential campaign of the Labour Party on Friday.
Governor Obaseki in a media interaction, disclosed that the state government declined approval of the request for the stadium because the notice arrived too late, saying that the state government received notice 24 hours to event.
The governor further explained: “The tracks for that stadium are still under warranty.
“The pitch has to be maintained in a certain mould. So, it’s not just another facility you can use without preparing.”
However, Obaseki approved the same stadium for the presiden5ial campaign of his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on October 22.
The governor explained that the PDP met the conditions for the use of the stadium.
According to Obaseki, “And the only reason why we allowed the PDP rally was because it was also used as an opportunity to commission that facility. Otherwise, most other rallies are held in other large grounds around the city.”
