Ogun Police hunt fleeing suspect after Ijebu-Igbo gang rape arrest

A police manhunt is underway in Ogun State after a 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in her own home in Ijebu-Igbo, an incident that has already led to one arrest, with a second suspect still evading capture.

According to a statement issued Thursday by the command’s Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Opeyemi Oluborode, the alleged assault unfolded on August 30 at the victim’s residence in Odo-Idi Sale, Oke Sopen, within Ijebu-Igbo.

The case only came to police attention after the victim’s mother walked into the Ijebu-Igbo Division on Tuesday morning, around 10:10 a.m., to file a formal complaint. That report set off a swift response. Officers were dispatched to secure the scene, while the young woman was rushed to the General Hospital for medical attention and examination.

From there, investigators moved quickly to identify those involved. One suspect, 20-year-old Ayomide Kamula, was taken into custody and remains there now, undergoing questioning as police piece together what happened. His alleged co-conspirator, identified as Boye Balogun, has so far managed to stay out of reach, prompting what Oluborode described as intensified, intelligence-led efforts to track him down. The case has since been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, where it will undergo further investigation ahead of any prosecution.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni weighed in on the case personally, condemning the alleged attack in strong terms and using the moment to restate the command’s broader position on sexual and gender-based violence a firm zero-tolerance policy, he said, that applies regardless of who is involved.

He offered reassurance to both the victim’s family and the wider public that the investigation would be handled thoroughly, with a promise that anyone ultimately found responsible would answer for it under the law. Ojajuni closed with an appeal to the public, urging anyone with information that could help locate the still-missing suspect to come forward and reach out to the command.
