Omawunmi, the widow of late Afrobeat musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has threatened to independently carry out a DNA test if the singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, fails to participate in the paternity test to confirm the biological father of their son, Liam.
The latest development marks a new phase in the ongoing dispute between Omawunmi and Joseph Aloba.
In a letter filed by her legal team, Omawunmi accused Joseph Aloba of deliberately avoiding the DNA test that has been proposed to determine the paternity of Liam, the young son she had with Mohbad before his tragic passing.
Her lawyers assert that despite multiple attempts to arrange the test, progress has been stymied due to Joseph Aloba’s reluctance.
The letter read in part: “We want to ask you to promptly take steps or advise your client to do all that may be necessary to ensure the timely conduct of the DNA so that we can make progress. If your client, however, chooses to continue in this tardy manner and prefers empty social media hype for bad reasons, you will leave us no other option than to conduct the DNA ourselves and publish the same for the whole world to see. We shall inform the court of our position in this regard.”

Omawunmi’s legal team also reminded Joseph Aloba’s representatives that their previous attempts to arrange the DNA test had been met with delay and obstruction.
“We remain Solicitors to the Respondent in the referenced suit and we have her express consent to write this letter to you. It would be recalled that we have exchanged a series of letters on the above but we seem not to be making any progress and it is sad,” the letter continued.
The letter further highlighted that after responding to a communication from Joseph Aloba’s lawyer on December 5, 2024, Omawunmi’s legal team had been waiting for a response, but no further action had been taken by Joseph Aloba’s side. Omawunmi’s lawyers also expressed concerns over the choice of location for the test, particularly the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, which they felt was inappropriate.
They have since suggested alternative locations, such as Eko Hospital and Reddington Hospital, as suitable venues for the test.
The tension surrounding the DNA test has become the focal point of a dispute over the paternity of Liam, with both sides seemingly entrenched in their positions. While Omawunmi has made it clear that she is willing to proceed with the test independently if necessary, the ongoing deadlock has left both families awaiting resolution.
The outcome of this issue could have significant implications not only for the family but also for the public image of both parties involved.
If Omawunmi proceeds with her independent DNA test, the results may be made public, adding to the already intense media scrutiny surrounding Mohbad’s untimely death and the family drama that has followed.
