Ondo Dep Gov Ajayi loses PDP ticket to Eyitayo Jegede, now returns to battle Akeredolu
Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi of Ondo State who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost the PDP governorship ticket at the party’s primary election. The deputy governor lost the PDP ticket to Eyitayo Jegede on Thursday.
Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, declared Jegede the winner of the primary election which held at the International Culture and Events Center, the dome in Akure. Accordingly, Jegede will be flying the PDP flag in the Ondo State governorship election on October 10.
About 3,000 delegates participated in the primary election to elect the PDP candidate. Jegede got 888 votes to defeat the incumbent Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, who had 657 votes, beside seven other aspirants.
Details of the result indicated that other aspirants who include Eddy Olafeso had 175 votes, Banji Okunomo – 90 votes, Olabode Ayorinde – 95 votes and Boluwaji Kunlere – 33 votes; Olusola Ebiseeni – 29 votes and Godday Erewa – 14 votes. 64 invalid votes were recorded.
Eyitayo Jegede now returns to battle incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the APC in the October governorship election.
