Opta SuperComputer predicts Spain as 2026 World Cup favourites with 16% winning chance
The Opta SuperComputer has predicted that Spain will emerge as champions of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, placing the reigning European champions at the top of its data-driven forecast ahead of other leading contenders.
The projection reinforces growing expectations around La Roja, who continue to enjoy strong form on the international stage following their recent European Championship success and consistent performances under coach Luis de la Fuente.
Spain have been drawn in Group H, where they will face Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, and tournament debutants Cape Verde in the group stage of the expanded competition.
According to Opta’s statistical model, Spain lead the probability rankings with a 16.0 per cent chance of winning the tournament, making them the most likely side to lift the trophy based on pre-tournament simulations.
France follow in second place with a 12.9 percent chance, reflecting their continued status as one of the strongest squads in world football, while England rank third with a 10.8 per cent probability as they chase their first World Cup title since 1966.
