Panic as unknown gunmen kill soldiers at a checkpoint in Abuja border town
Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked and killed unspecified numbers of soldiers at a checkpoint around Zuma rock in Niger State.
It was gathered that the attack occurred close to Madalla town, few meters away from Zuba along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, on Thursday night, July 28.
Daily Trust reports that the terrorists arrived at the spot some minutes after 7pm and opened fire on the troops, k#lling some.
“They took control of the area for about 30 minutes and kept on shooting before heading towards Kaduna axis of the expressway,” the source said. Adding that about 20 minutes after the terrorists left, soldiers from Zuma Barracks rushed to the scene and took full control.
The incident occurred days after terrorists battled the Presidential Guards Brigade along the Kubwa-Bwari road in Abuja. The Brigade, an elite arm of the Nigerian Army, is responsible for protecting the President of Nigeria.
