A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, is currently in a closed-door meeting with Bala Mohammed, fueling fresh political realignment talks ahead of future electoral contests.

Sources confirmed that the high-level meeting is taking place at the Bauchi State Government House, although details of the discussions remain undisclosed as of press time.

Speaking in a telephone interview, Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, disclosed that Obi arrived in Bauchi with a delegation that included key political figures from the Southeast, among them serving senators.

“Obi came with his team from the Southeast, which included some Southeast senators. We are in Bauchi right now, and the pictures and details will soon be out,” Tanko said.

Growing Political Realignments

The meeting comes amid growing speculation that Governor Mohammed may be considering a defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he has been a prominent figure.

Political observers say the Bauchi governor has recently intensified consultations, a move widely interpreted as part of efforts to explore alternative political platforms ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

Insiders suggest that the African Democratic Congress is emerging as a possible destination, although no official confirmation has been made by Mohammed or his associates.

Strategic Alliance Talks?

Analysts believe the meeting between Obi and Mohammed could signal early discussions around broader coalition-building efforts, particularly as opposition figures seek stronger alliances capable of reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.

A political analyst based in Abuja, Sadiq Lawal, noted that “any engagement between figures like Obi and Governor Mohammed should be viewed within the context of ongoing realignments. There is a growing push among opposition leaders to consolidate influence under more viable platforms.”

While neither camp has released an official statement on the outcome of the meeting, expectations are high that further details could emerge in the coming days.

For now, the closed-door talks have added momentum to speculation about shifting political loyalties and the possible strengthening of the African Democratic Congress as a platform for emerging alliances.
