Police arraign man, 36, over alleged phone theft

The police in Lagos, on Tuesday, arraigned a 36-year-old man, Benjamin Joseph in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a Techno phone worth N105,000.
Joseph, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The Prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that Joseph allegedly committed the offences with some others still at large on April 8 at Seme-Border area of Badagry.
Ekpo said that the defendant stole the phone belonging to one Fauziyat Suleiman and was arrested by members of vigilance group, who handed him over to the police.
Ekpo said that the offences contravened sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
However, Joseph pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000, with three sureties in like sum.
Layeni ordered that one of the sureties must be a community leader, and adjourned the case to May 15 for mention.
