Police arraign woman, 50, for alleged fraud, stealing
The Police on Friday in Lagos, arraigned a 50-year-old woman, Idowu Soji, before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining food stuffs valued N784,770.00 under false pretense.
Soji, of Alhaji Amoo Street, Ojota in Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of Obtaining under a false pretense and stealing.
The prosecution counsel, Insp. Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between December 2020 and January 2021 at Olatunji Street, Ojota area of Lagos.
“Perezi alleged that the defendant fraudulently collected food stuffs worth N784, 770.00 from one Funke Bakare with the pretense of reselling to customers and remitting the capital back to her, a presentation known to be false.
Perezi said the defendant was to remit the capital back to the complainant and take her profit but instead stole the whole capital and has been avoiding Mrs Bakare.
“The offence contravened Sections 312 and 287(9) of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015,’’ Perezi said.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.M Ajayi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum with evidence of tax payment.
Ajayi adjourned the case until March 31 for mention.
