Police confirm 13 dead, 32 injured in road accident
The Police have confirmed 13 people dead in a road accident involving a trailer in Jigawa State.
The Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Police Command, Lawan Adam, in a statement disclosed that 32 other persons were injured in the incident.
The PPRO narrated that the trailer with registration number ‘TAR 357 XA; Jigawa State’ was conveying cows and goats but had about 53 passengers on board. He further said that the trailer driven by a 28-year-old man, Babangida Mohammed, was traveling from Maigatari Local Government Area (LGA), Jigawa State, to Lagos.
The Police identified the deceased as Sani Ado – 25yrs, Saleh Yusuf – 53yrs, Aminu Mohammed – 35yrs, Haruna Maigari –20yrs, Haruna Ubali – 25yrs, Abdurrazak Lauwali – 30yrs, Abdulmutallib Hamza – 20yrs, Anas Ibrahim – 35yrs, Naziru Khalid – 30yrs, and Nuraddeen Mohammed – 25yrs.
The police was unable to confirm the identities of three victims.
Adam explained that a team of police personnel swiftly arrived at the scene to rescue the injured victims who were taken to the general hospital in Ringim.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Adam, said that four other persons who include Adamu Gagare, Ado Habu, Rabiu Ibrahim, and Arma Idris were referred to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital, for medical treatment.
The PPRO stated: “The unfortunate incident happened when the said driver lost control on reaching a point called Kwanar Shafar Ringim area and as a result, the vehicle fell and overturned.”
The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, CP Aliyu Tafida, has condoled with the families of the deceased and pray for the recovery of the Injured victims.
The CP told motorists to avoid over-speeding, overtaking, overloading and receiving phone calls while driving.
