The Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase has affirmed that the Nigerian Police Force Foundation is envisioned as an official intervention scheme that would support the attainment of the educational desires of children and wards of Junior Cadre Officers in particular and other Senior Officers in general.
He stated this at the launch of the Nigeria Police Force Educational Scholarship Foundation in Abuja during which the first set of 325 awardees received scholarship under the Nigeria Police Force Educational Scholarship Foundation.
According to the Police Boss, the foundation is also aimed at reducing the temptation to engage in corrupt practices propelled by the negative urge of policemen to meet the financial requirements for the provision of quality education for their children and wards.
He further noted that the incorporation of the scholarship foundation is a clear demonstration of the firm determination of the force leadership to advance Mr. President’s anti-corruption stance through the engagement of innovative and enduring strategies.
“Beyond this, the foundation will also serve as a post-humus support scheme for children of our professional colleagues who have gallantly paid the supreme price in the service of their fatherland in the North East as well as other police operations in other parts of the country”, he added.
The pilot scheme according to Arase caters for only pupils in the primary school and students in secondary school across the country, which is envisaged to be extended to even the tertiary level.
The IGP also lauded the selection process for the 1st award exercise which he described as thorough and carefully selected based on academic performance and welfare consideration of children of diseased officers who died in line of duty while serving the nation.
The IGP also stated that apart from adding value to the future of the police children, it is also billed to reward serving police officers that keep faith with the police vision for a professional, disciplined, civil, loyal and incorruptible police force in a way that will motivate them for higher performance.
