President Tinubu, Sierra Leonean President Bio meet behind closed doors at Aso Rock

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently engaged in a private meeting with his Sierra Leonean counterpart, Julius Maada Bio, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The closed-door discussions are taking place with only a select group of government officials in attendance, as both leaders explore ways to further strengthen the ties between their two nations.

President Bio, who arrived at the villa around 12:30 p.m., was warmly received by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

His arrival was marked by a ceremonial welcome, with the Presidential Guards Brigade lining up to greet him, accompanied by traditional bagpipe music—a gesture highlighting the diplomatic significance of the visit.

Though the specific agenda of the meeting has not been made public, sources suggest that the talks are centered around bolstering bilateral relations between Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

The two countries, which are both active members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU), have long-standing ties and a shared commitment to regional peace and development.

Nigeria, in particular, has played a pivotal role in peacekeeping missions across the African continent, with a notable history of supporting Sierra Leone during its civil war.

As both leaders continue their discussions, it is anticipated that they will also address key issues impacting the broader West African region, including security challenges, trade, and other initiatives aimed at fostering peace and prosperity across Africa.
