Real Madrid’s Mendy Faces Trial Over Alleged Dog Attack on Teenager
Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy is set to stand trial after one of his dogs allegedly attacked a teenager and two other dogs following their escape from his property in Madrid, according to Spanish reports.
A Madrid court document, dated January 7 and seen by AFP, revealed that private prosecutors are seeking a six-month prison sentence for Mendy on charges of causing injury through gross negligence, in addition to financial penalties. The public prosecutor’s office is requesting fines for a lesser offence.

The incident reportedly occurred in January 2023 when four dogs belonging to the French international escaped from his home in the affluent Madrid suburb of Alcobendas after a gate was left open as a vehicle entered the premises.
Spanish media reported that one of the dogs attacked another woman’s pet, which sustained severe injuries and was later euthanised. A 17-year-old boy who attempted to intervene was also bitten, along with another dog he was walking.
Mendy, who joined Real Madrid from Lyon in 2019, has been a key member of the Spanish club’s defence, although his time at the Santiago Bernabéu has been affected by recurring injuries.
