Religious tolerance, bane of peaceful coexistence, says Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Nigerians to tolerate each other’s religion, saying it is the bane of peaceful coexistence and economic development of the country.

Obasanjo stated this while appearing as a special guest minister at a Sunday service held at the Glorious Life Pentecostal Church, Abeokuta.

Speaking on his one year experience in India during his military days, the former president said the real service to God is the service to fellow humans.

He urged the citizens to redefine and solidify their relationship with God so as to make positive contributions to the service of God and humanity.

“What exactly is God asking of you? It is your relationship with Him and your fellow humans. What you are as husband to your wife, and your community to your state.

“Some of us will say that church is all about prayer and saying amen, with a belief that there is work a congregation could render to God, then think about it,” he queried.

Appreciating the church for the honour done to him, Obasanjo said “when I was invited for this programme, I didn’t expect that Pastor Samson Ogin would speak about the relationship between us and what we have done to serve God and humanity. If you serve humanity well, then you are serving God.”

Earlier, while welcoming the former president, the General Overseer, Pastor Samson Ogin, described President Obasanjo as a blessing to Nigeria, saying that he handled Nigeria’s problem like his personal problems

“Baba has done well, he is a father of Africa and I never regret working with him for more than two decades during which he taught me good things that I still enjoy till date,” Pastor Ogin said.
