Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Thursday declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will win the general elections in the state in 2023. Governor Wike at the signing of contract with Julius Berger Plc, at the Government House, Port Harcourt, for the construction of the 11th Flyover in the state, said that the PDP government has done well to elevate Rivers State to a higher pedestal of development, noting that the people are aware of the PDP achievements in the state.

Wike emphasized that people who want to govern Rivers State, whether they are in the state or at the federal level, must have something to present to the people of the state that they have done for the development of Rivers. He said that a former governor who later became a minister cannot show what he brought to the state from the federal.

Wike asserted that he can count some of the things he brought to Rivers State when he was Minister of State for Defence, reiterating that the former governor from the state brought nothing, yet he wants to bring somebody to govern Rivers State.

The Rivers Governor accused political actors from the state in the ruling party at the centre of looting Rivers State, saying they wanted to be partners with him. “They came, they wanted us to be partners, how can we be partners in crime?” he declared.

The governor questioned what they will tell the people of Rivers State to convince the people that they want to govern the state.

He reaffirmed that the PDP would win Rivers, stating that the next governor of the state was sitting at the event. He said that people in other parties are going to waste their money. According to Wike, “for those in other parties, I wish them bad luck.”

Wike maintained that those who looted the treasury of Rivers State when they controlled the government of the state, will face trial, warning, “if they like, let them assemble hundred SANs, they will face trial for their loot.”

Wike also encouraged Julius Berger to complete the contract within 10 months as contained in the contract terms. He warned that J. Berger should not give any excuse citing rainfall of the season for delay in delivering the job. “Don’t tell me that the rain is falling. If you know the rain will delay you, don’t’ collect our money,” Wike said.

The governor revealed that Rivers State government is paying Julius Berger N2 billion monthly for ongoing projects in the state. Wike reiterated that the Flyover construction must be completed in 10 months, insisting that he  must commission the project before he leaves office in 2023.
