Security task force arrests 12 over killing of 25 travelers in Ondo

A military task force in Plateau State, Operation Safe Haven, has arrested 12 persons suspected to be involved in the ambush of Ondo travelers and killing of 25 persons in Plateau State on Saturday.

The public relations officer of the Operation Safe Haven, assigned to Plateau State to combat bandits, kidnappers, other criminals and maintain peace in Plateau State, Major Ishaku Takwa, revealed that 12 persons have been arrested with links to the attack and killing of 25 Ondo travelers in the state. He added that the task force has restored normalcy in the territory.

The travelers were on their way from Bauchi to Ikare, Ondo State, on Saturday morning when they were ambushed by gunmen who killed 25 of the travelers, injured 14 others on Rukuba road, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State.

President Muhammadu Buhari had condemned the attack. Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State had also appealed to the people of the state to desist from taking laws into their hands, and eschew from reprisal attacks as well as ethnic and religious misinterpretation of the attack.

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State also cautioned that the state government will not tolerate criminal elements troubling the state and the residents, declaring that the government will not permit any form of lawlessness to disrupt the peace of the state.

Governor Lalong further warned that attacks on innocent citizens, no their matter their background, will never be tolerated in the State and those who are found to be behind such attacks will be dealt with decisively to serve as deterrent, towards restoring public order.
