Sen. Yari pays N1.3bn as fertiliser subsidy for Zamfara farmers
Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari (APC-Zamfara) has paid over N1.3 billion as fertiliser subsidy to farmers for this year’s wet farming season across the state.
Ibrahim Birnin-Magaji, Chairman, Yari’s Publicity Committee, in a statement in Gusau on Tuesday, quoted Alhaji Lawal Liman, Chairman, Sen. Yari Political Organisation, as saying this while inspecting the 81 trucks of subsidised fertiliser at ASAD Fertiliser Blending Company in Bungudu town.
According to him, the gesture is meant to be distributed to all farmers in the state irrespective of political divide.
He said a committee was set up to commence distribution of the commodity to farmers, assuring that all the 81 ordered trucks had already been provided by ASAD company.
“The beneficiaries of the subsidized fertilizer are largely small-scale holder farmers.
“This is part of the lawmaker’s initiative to assist farmers in the state to boost food production.
“Each beneficiary is expected to pay the sum of N20,000 only per bag of the commodity, instead of its market price of N45,000 to N50,000,” he added.
According to him the commodity will be delivered to all the 14 local government headquarters free-of charge to ease farmers’ access.
He said sells of the commodity would commence very soon. (NAN)
