Senator replaces Zamfara deputy gov impeached
Following the impeachment of Zamfara Dep Gov Aliyu Gusau, the state governor has picked a replacement: a senator.
Gov. Bello Matawalle forwarded a letter asking the state legislature to screen Sen. Hassan Muhammad Nasiha Gusau.
Speaker of the House, Honourable Nasiru Muazu Magarya, read the governor’s letter at plenary on Wednesday.
When he appeared before the assembly, the nominee was asked to “bow and leave” in line with the tradition of legislative houses.
The lawmakers confirmed Gusau based on his “track record as a politician, seasoned administrator and his wealth of knowledge an experienced in public life”.
The deputy governor designate will be sworn in later on Wednesday.
Until his appointment, Gusau, first elected a senator in 2007, represented Zamfara Central in the National Assembly. He lost to Sen Kabiru Marafa in 2011, but found his way back in 2019.
The impeached Gusau, a member of the PDP, refused to follow his boss and party man to the APC in 2020, when the battle to oust him began.
