Shakira, Burna Boy to perform official 2026 World Cup anthem “Dai Dai” at opening ceremony
Colombian global superstar Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats artist Burna Boy are set to perform the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, titled “Dai Dai,” at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City, according to FIFA announcements and multiple confirmed reports.
The song, which has already been released as part of FIFA’s official music rollout for the tournament, blends Latin and Afrobeats influences and reflects FIFA’s ongoing effort to create a multicultural soundtrack for the world’s biggest football event.
FIFA confirmed that “Dai Dai” is the official 2026 World Cup anthem, bringing together Shakira—one of the most recognizable voices in World Cup music history and Burna Boy, one of Africa’s biggest contemporary music exports.
The track carries a message of global unity and celebration, incorporating multiple languages and energetic chants designed to reflect the international spirit of the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico City is expected to be one of three separate ceremonies held across the host nations Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The Mexico City event will officially kick off the tournament, which begins on June 11, 2026.
Shakira’s involvement adds a high-profile musical highlight to the ceremony, marking another return to the World Cup stage for the singer, who previously delivered iconic performances such as “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” at the 2010 tournament.
Shakira’s participation in Dai Dai extends her long-standing relationship with FIFA World Cup music. Over the years, she has become closely associated with the tournament’s entertainment identity, performing at multiple editions and producing globally successful football anthems.
Burna Boy’s collaboration reflects FIFA’s increasing focus on African and global sounds, especially Afrobeats, which has become one of the world’s fastest-growing music genres.
The announcement of “Dai Dai” has already generated strong international attention, with fans highlighting the chemistry between both artists and the song’s energetic production. The track is also part of FIFA’s broader official music album for the 2026 tournament, which features multiple global collaborations.
As anticipation builds toward kickoff in June 2026, the anthem is expected to play a central role in setting the tone for what is projected to be the largest and most widely attended World Cup in history.
