Southeast Governors unite to back Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid
“All the governors in the South East, regardless of party affiliation, are working with the President,” Umahi stated. “We’re even planning a summit to bring together all South-East leaders to endorse the President for the 2027 elections formally.”
Senator Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, has announced that all five governors from Nigeria’s Southeast region are united in their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s anticipated bid for a second term in 2027.
This declaration comes as the region reportedly experiences increased federal attention and infrastructure development under the current administration.
Umahi made this assertion during an interview for an upcoming State House documentary commemorating President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office.
He emphasized the collective backing from Southeast governors, regardless of their individual political affiliations, highlighting ongoing federal projects in the region as evidence of the administration’s commitment to equitable development.
These projects include significant road constructions and the completion of the Second Niger Bridge.
Umahi also extended an invitation to former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, urging him to join the collective support for President Tinubu.
He stressed the importance of unity and collaboration for the continued progress and integration of the Southeast region.

The Southeast region, comprising states led by governors from various political parties, has historically expressed feelings of marginalization in federal appointments and infrastructure development.
However, Umahi noted that the current administration has made significant strides in addressing these concerns, fostering a sense of inclusion and equitable treatment.
As the nation approaches the 2027 general elections, the unified stance of Southeast governors signals a potential shift in the region’s political landscape, reflecting a growing alignment with the central government’s development agenda.
