In a coordinated effort to bolster security and maintain public order, the Lagos State Taskforce apprehended 41 individuals during a targeted raid on criminal hideouts across Lagos Island in the early hours of Tuesday, May 21, 2025.

According to a statement released by the Director of Public Affairs, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the operation commenced around 1:00 a.m. and strategically focused on areas notorious for illicit activities. These areas included Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Falomo, Osborne Road, the Eko Hotel axis, Lekki Road, and Obalende.

“The raid is part of the state government’s ongoing clean-up enforcement campaign aimed at eradicating miscreants, street urchins, hooligans, pickpockets, and other suspected criminals from the metropolis. Abdulraheem noted that the operation successfully restored sanity to the affected areas.”

“During the raid exercise, a total number of 41 suspects were arrested, and sanity was restored,” the statement read.

The apprehended suspects are expected to face prosecution in accordance with the law.

This operation follows similar recent efforts by the Lagos State Taskforce, which has intensified its crackdown on criminal elements across the state.

In a related development earlier this month, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce arrested 74 individuals, including homeless persons, during a clean-up operation targeting under-bridge settlements in the Lekki axis.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasized that that exercise aimed to restore order and cleanliness to public spaces.

These ongoing operations underscore the Lagos State Government’s commitment to enhancing security and public hygiene, striving to ensure a safer and more orderly environment for all residents of the metropolis.
