Suspects in Kano Pastor Yohanna’s lynching arrested
No fewer than seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the lynching of Pastor Shuaibu Yohana in Samaila LGA of Kano in September..
Following his death, and the destruction of his house and school, CAN leaders in the state demanded justice on the incident.
The suspects, according to Abdullahi Kiyawa, spokesperson for Kano police command, said they attacked the house and his occupants because they believed Yohanna was hiding a man who killed his brother’s wife.
On Septemeber 22, Sabo Idris, a new convert of Yohannad, had a a fight with his brother’s wife, killing her in the process.
Yohanna had tried to intervene, leading to the public outrage that later ended his life.
“In the course of investigation, they said they suspected the pastor of hiding someone who killed his brother’s wife. Another has since reported himself to us, making them seven in number that are connected to the killing of the pastor,” Mr Kiyawa said on the BBC Hausa Service o Monday.
He added that the case has been transferred to the homicide department at the police command headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
“This is a serious case that you cannot just hastily conclude. You need evidence and we have made headway in the investigation,” Kiyawa said.
CAN leader Samuel Adeyemi has asked the state government to compensate the association.
