UK congratulates President-elect, Tinubu
The United Kingdom (UK) on Thursday congratulated the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on his victory at the Saturday Presidential and National Assembly elections. UK Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, communicated the congratulatory message of his home country to Tinubu on Thursday.
The Senior Communication and Public Diplomacy Officer of the British High Commission, Atinuke Akande-Alegbe, in a statement in Lagos, indicated that Cleverly commended Nigerian voters for their participation in the elections and for exercising patience and resilience in exercising their democratic rights.
According to the UK Foreign Secretary, “we note the position of opposition parties on the election outcome and the concerns expressed by observer missions and civil society about the organisation of the process, including delays and technical challenges.
“We encourage the authorities to examine all concerns carefully, take action to resolve outstanding issues and focus on delivering the will of the Nigerian people.”
