Police operatives in Katsina State have arrested Usamatu Adamu, the Village Head of Unguwan Tambai in Runka, Safana Local Government Area, for allegedly providing intelligence to bandits involved in criminal activities.
The Katsina State Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed the arrest on Wednesday while parading 15 other suspected criminals in the state capital.
According to Sadiq-Aliyu, the 45-year-old traditional ruler was apprehended on October 3 in Sabon Gida village, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following credible intelligence. He is accused of criminal conspiracy and facilitating kidnappings in his community.
“The suspect’s arrest followed a thorough investigation that linked him to several kidnapping incidents in Runka, Safana LGA,” Sadiq-Aliyu said. “Preliminary investigations revealed his alleged involvement in coordinating kidnappings and sharing information with notorious bandits.

He has confessed to the crime and implicated two other accomplices, Rabe Sada, also known as ‘BBC,’ aged 62, and Nasiru Sha’aibu, aged 48, both from Runka village.”
The police spokesperson stated that the trio had been providing vital information to a notorious bandits’ leader named Umar, who operates out of the Runka forest, a known hideout for criminal elements in the region. The investigation is ongoing, and more arrests may follow.
The arrest highlights the persistent security challenges in Katsina State, where bandits have been responsible for widespread violence, including kidnappings, property destruction, and sexual violence.
Despite ongoing efforts by the government and security forces to curb these activities, banditry remains a significant issue in the state, with local officials often accused of complicity in the violence.
Adamu’s arrest adds to growing concerns about the role of community leaders in enabling banditry, complicating efforts to restore peace in affected areas. Authorities are hoping the investigation into his alleged involvement will shed light on the broader network of collaborators aiding criminal activities in the region.
