Welder docked for allegedly failing to produce suspect
A welder, Christopher Okpara was on Monday, docked in a Magistrates’ Court in Gwagwalasa, FCT for allegedly failing to produce a suspect.
The police charged Okpara, 70, of Sheda kulali Abuja with screening of an offender.
The prosecutor,Mr Dabo Yakubu told the court that the complainant, Mrs Rejoice Ifeanyi of compensation layout Gwagwalada reported the matter at the Gwagwalada police station on July 9.
Yakubu said that the complainant reported a case of criminal breach of trust and cheating against one Mike surname unknown, now at large at the Police station.
Yakubu said the defendant wrote an undertaking at the police station to produce mike, on or before July 30th, but failed to comply as agreed.
He said that the complainant paid N50,000 to Mike who works with the defendant in his shop, to make a door for her, remaining the balance of #5,000.
He said when the complainant went to pick the door, the defendant refused to give her the door until Mike comes back.
During police investigation, the defendant could not give satisfactory account of himself.
Yakubu told the court that offence contravened the provisions of Section 167 of the penal code.
However the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Olatunji Olaadunmoye admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of 100,000 and sure in like sum.
He said the surety must reside withing the jurisdiction of the court and must produce a reliable means of identification.
Olaadunmoye however adjourned the matter until September 16 for hearing.
