White House dismisses doubt over Biden’s health status

The White House has dismissed public doubts over the health status of  President Joe Biden of the United States (U.S.), saying the president is physically and mentally fit to perform his duties. The issue is, however, coming up in the expectations towards the 2024 presidential election in the U.S. many believe President Biden has not been in good health and cannot contest the 2024 presidential election.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre clarified the health status of the president in an interaction with Don Lemon, a CNN host, who asked: “Does the president have the stamina physically and mentally, do you think, to continue on even after 2024?”

Jean-Pierre had asserted: “…he’s the President of the United States. I can’t even keep up with him. We just got back from New Mexico, we just got back from California. That is not a question that we should even be asking,” Jean-Pierre, who recently succeeded Jen Psaki, responded.

“Just look at the work that he does. Look how he’s delivering for the American public.”

A Democrat, David Axelrod, who worked for Barack Obama’s two terms campaigns, had expressed concerns, saying, “The presidency is a monstrously taxing job and the stark reality is the president would be closer to 90 than 80 at the end of a second term, and that would be a major issue.”

Another Democrat, Alex Wyshyvanuk, had also expressed: “I need an equivalent of Ron DeSantis, a Democrat, but not a 70- or 80-year-old, a younger person; someone who knows what worked for you in 1980 is not going to work for you in 2022 or 2024.”

Jean-Pierre had on Monday disputed the reality of an article on the health status of President Biden in New York times, which has been generating doubt over the fitness of the U.S. president to continue in office after his first tenure in 2024. According to the White House Press Secretary, “That article that we’re talking about is hearsay, it’s fallacious. That’s not what we care about.

“We care about how we are going to deliver for the American people. How are we going to make people’s lives better? … That is his focus and that’s what we’re going to continue to focus on.” she said.

Biden at 79, was the oldest U.S. president in history at the time he was inaugurated in January 2021.
