Why FUDMA chapter can’t join NASU strike – Chairperson.
The Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State, says its members will join the planned strike because it is not officially communicated by the national secretariat.
The Acting Chairman of the NASU, FUDMA chapter, Hajiya Nafisa Mansur-Safana, disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Monday in Katsina.
The union explained that its members would continue to participate in their workplaces and abolish any attempt to stop them from their duty posts.
“We have not being officially communicated over the strike action. Our branch will not join the strike, that’s our position.
“The national and state union of this non-academic staff union is dealing with fake and sacked leaders. We are the new leadership and we will not join any strike action.
“The national NASU has been fully briefed about our peculiar situation and we sacked the former leadership during a congress and the new executives recommended by the congress, but the national body only deals with former leaders.
“Our branch has acted on the advice of the Constitution of the union and we have followed the constitutional process, and communicated to the state and national body of the union over the removal of the former leadership,” according to her.
The acting Secretary of the union, Mr Shehu Muhammad, also said: “We cannot join the strike because the national leadership failed to address the petition filed to them over the challenges facing the union in this university.”
Muhammad further appealed to NASU members to ignore any strike action and concentrate on their work.
He also assured that the union had sent a petition to EFCC and other anti-corruption agencies over the alleged financial mismanagement by the former leaders of the union.
The acting secretary revealed that the union would soon quit NASU to join a fresh union that would protect the interest of its members.
However, the Chairman of the other faction of NASU at FUDMA, Mr Isyaku Karofi, said that the group has joined the strike.
According to him, the Mansur-Safana’s faction is the creation of the Vice-Chancellor of the universty, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi.
