Wike softens, proffers solutions for resolving PDP crisis, says Ayu must sacrifice, Atiku consider expediency
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in a media chat broadcasted live on Friday and monitored by National Daily from Lagos, provided solutions to the resolution of the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The governor reiterated that since the north has won the PDP presidential ticket for 2023 elections, southern PDP members have accepted that, and there is nothing anyone can do about it; but insisted that the north must return the PDP national chairman to the south for the sake inclusiveness
The Rivers governor noted that Nigerians are angry with the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that the PDP sh0ould not miss this opportunity to take over power.
Wike told Atiku to prove that he has the capacity to unify Nigeria by unifying the PDP. He said that Atiku can resolve the PDP crisis on political expediency, not law.
Wike also said that the PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, should make sacrifice and resign, noting that resignation is not removal.
The governor admitted that other parties have been lobbying him for defection but that he remains a member of the PDP. He expressed confidence that PDP will win the elections in Rivers State.
Wike, however, warned that losing Rivers State will be costly for the PDP. He said that the PDP cannot afford to lose Rivers State when it is not in control of Kano and Lagos State.
