Nigerian Navy inaugurates Commanders level course for greater efficiency

The Nigerian Navy on Monday, at the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) of the Nigerian Navy, Lagos inaugurated Command Level Officers Course 1 aimed at improving the quality of command afloat and ashore.
Inaugurating the officers consisting mainly of Captains and Commanders, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), NAVTRAC, Rear Admiral Ifeola Mohammed, said that the navy needed a Well-trained naval personnel with the confidence and attributes to defend the territorial integrity of the country.
The four-week training programme has a total of 23 officers who are expected to be tutored on the effective management of ship and naval establishments.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Commandant, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Quorra, Commodore Francis Isaac, said that the maiden course was designed to assist the naval headquarters in determining the suitability of nominated officers for independent command level appointments afloat and ashore.
“Also, it would equip participants with adequate knowledge required for management of a ship or establishment,’’ Isaac said.
He reiterated that the course was to standardise the selection process of officers of the rank of commander and captains for command responsibilities afloat and ashore.

The Chief of Training and Operations (CTOPs), Naval Headquarters, Abuja, Rear Admiral AA Osinowo called on the officers to make effective use of the opportunity the course presents to improve their capacity to carry out huge administrative duties as well as enhance navy’s ability to deal with emerging maritime insecurity
Present at the inauguration were the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Ferguson Bobai, the Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Abraham Adaji.
