Troops overrun, kill Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists invading military base Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Northeast Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on Monday overrun Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, killing many of the insurgents in gun battle. The Nigerian Army had disclosed that troops of the Joint Task Force, Northeast Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), killed Boko Haram/Islamic States West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement in Ábuja on Monday indicated that troops assigned to the Cameroonian Defence Force killed four terrorists at the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Wulgo, Borno State.

Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu said that the “vigilant troops successfully” foiled the terrorists attempt to invade the military camp while “on patrol to dominate their area of responsibility.”

The troops, according to Brig. Gen. Nwachukwu, “swiftly responded with overwhelming fire and spontaneous” reinforcement from the battalion headquarters, compelling the terrorists to flee.

The Army Director stated: “Troops immediately carried out a hot pursuit and exploitation after the encounter, along the terrorists’ route of withdrawal and neutralised three terrorists.

“The gallant troops also recovered three AK 47 rifles, six magazines and 50 rounds of 7.62mm special.”

The Director of Army Public Relations further disclosed that four other Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists perished same day near the 151 Battalion location. He said that they  were burnt beyond recognition, “as their gun truck mounted with anti-aircraft guns ran over an improvised explosive device (IED).”

He said that the troops are combing the area to “clear any surviving terrorists.”

The troops were commended by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, who encouraged them to sustain the aggression on the terrorists.
