Enugu Air reschedules Abuja flights as aviation union blockade disrupts operations

Enugu Air has announced the rescheduling of some flights operating through Abuja following industrial action by aviation workers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The disruption has affected access to parts of the airport terminal, with union members reportedly preventing airline staff and other operational personnel from entering the facility.

In a statement issued by the airline, Enugu Air said the labour action had temporarily disrupted its operations at the Abuja airport, forcing the carrier to adjust its flight schedule.

“Due to an ongoing industrial action at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where union workers are denying staff access into the airport terminal, operations at the airport have been temporarily suspended,” the airline said.

It added that some flights could be rescheduled until the situation was resolved and advised affected passengers to monitor the airline’s official communication channels for updates.

The industrial action involves aviation labour unions, including the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), amid a dispute over issues affecting workers in the sector.

The disruption has raised concerns about the impact of industrial action on air connectivity, particularly as Abuja serves as a major hub for domestic and regional flights.

Other airlines have also reported disruptions linked to the labour action, with passengers facing delays, cancellations and changes to scheduled departures at affected airports.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has urged aviation unions and other stakeholders to resolve their differences through dialogue, warning that prolonged disruptions could have wider implications for passengers, airlines and the country’s aviation industry.

For passengers scheduled to travel through Abuja, airlines have advised them to confirm their flight status before leaving for the airport and to follow official instructions regarding rescheduling, rebooking or refunds.

The situation remains dependent on negotiations between the unions and relevant aviation authorities, with airlines expected to continue adjusting their schedules as access to airport facilities is restored.
