NDLEA arrests three military impersonators conveying 427kg illicit drugs in Borno, Abuja
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday revealed that arrest of three drug traffickers who disguised themselves in security operatives uniform conveying over 427 kilograms of illicit drugs in Borno State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The media manager of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday indicated that the agency arrested one Yakubu Kotri impersonating the military on Wednesday. He said that Yakubu Kotri was driving a gulf car on his way to Bama, Borno State, conveying Cannabis Sativa weighing 208 kilograms.
Babafemi disclosed that the other military impersonator, Salisu Mohammed, was nabbed by the NDLEA patrol team along the way to Bama while ferrying Tramadol to Bama on Wednesday.
Babafemi declared that NDLEA is not party to the claims that Yakubu Kotri, whose pictures in military uniform at the time of arrest, is a serving military personnel. He insisted that Kotri was caught in possession of illegal drug, though, awaiting to be identified by the military authorities as personnel of the armed forces.
Babafemi further disclosed that the third impersonator, Dada Adekunle, was arrested with his 60-year-old accomplice, Usman Isa, on Wednesday in Abaji, FCT. He said that Isa was arrested with 15.843kg of cannabis, while one Alfred Aminu was conveying 20kg of cannabis when he was intercepted at Gwagwalada on Wednesday.
It was also disclosed that the agency intercepted a DAF lorry with registration number GME 874 YX, along Jos-Bauchi Road, Plateau State, on Tuesday traveling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Mubi, Adamawa State, conveying 7.8kg of 225mg tramadol.
NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd), commended interceptions made by the operatives of the agency.
