Enugu 2023: Sen. Ekweremadu disputes governorship zoning agreement
Senator Ike Ekweremadu, representing Enugu West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, at a World Press Conference tagged “A Pathway to a New Dawn in Enugu” disputed the implementation zoning agreement in Enugu State. He dismissed the public debate on zoning of the governor in Enugu State towards the 2023 governorship election as unnecessary.
There is the agitation that the governorship ticket will be zoned to Enugu East in 2023. Former PDP National Chairman, Okwasilieze Nwodo, had repeatedly stated a that the end of the tenure of the current governor, the governorship seat will move to Enugu East.
Ekweremadu, therefore, declared his intention to contest the 2023 governorship election I n Enugu State on the platform of the PDP. The senator highlighted his policy blueprint on the politics, economic, social and development of Enugu State. He promised to elevate the historical traditional capital of the old Eastern region of Nigeria to higher pedestal of development on infrastructure, education, youth and women development, security, and other strategic sectors.
Ekweremadu promised to utilize his experiences, friendships, partnerships, and global contact acquired over the years to transform Enugu to a model State.
Ekweremadu was a local government chairman, Chief of Staff to the Governor; Secretary to the Enugu State government; a five-term Senator, three term Deputy Senate President; and a Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament.
