National Assembly grounded by workers’ indefinite strike
The National Assembly was on Monday shutdown as the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) and National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) embark on an indefinite strike. The federal legislature workers are demanding the implementation of a subsisting memorandum of understanding for payment of all arrears and other conditions of service jointly signed by National Assembly Service Commission, the National Assembly management, and the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria on April 12, 2021.
Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) and National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), commencing the striking workers on Monday, occupied the entrance of the National Assembly complex, obstructing passage of the lawmakers and other staff into the complex from gaining access.
The striking staff vowed that the strike would continue until all the issues in the memorandum of understanding are met by the National Assembly Management. The issues include the revised condition of service, training and re-training of staff, payment of minimum wage arrears, leave grant and other allowances.
The leadership of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) and National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) ordered all members to stay away from office beginning on from Tuesday in sustaining the indefinite strike.
