EFCC silent as Court grants Fayose permission to travel overseas for medicals in N6.9bn trial
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was silent in an expected objection to a relief application by counsel to former Ekiti State Governor, as the Federal High Court in Lagos granted former Governor Ayodele Fayose to permission to travel overseas for medicals. It was said that there was no objection from the EFCC while the court granted the permission in a trial where Fayose is being prosecuted on 11 count charges on allegations of money laundering and stealing the sum of N6.9 billion.
Former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, 12th prosecution witness, was said to have concluded his witness statement in the suit at the resumed sitting on Tuesday.
Counsel to Fayose, Olalekan Ojo, had cross examined Obanikoro, who started his evidence on January 31, recalling the role one of his aides, Justin Erukaa, (now dead), played in the alleged fraud.
The court had admitted in evidence the statement made by the late Erukaa before his death.
Justice Chukwuejekwu Aneke, thereafter, adjourned further proceedings in the trial to July 18 and 19.
The controversial fund was identified to be part of the monies from the Office of the former National Security Adviser (ONSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki, for the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State.
