Favour Agbro’s resurfaced interview deepens public outrage in ‘Odogwu of Asaba’ case (Video)
A video of late nursing student Favour Agbro speaking about her desire to remain a virgin until marriage has resurfaced online, triggering widespread emotional reactions and renewing calls for justice as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The clip, recorded before the 20-year-old’s death, has been widely shared across social media platforms in recent days. In the interview, Agbro spoke candidly about her personal values, revealing that she was single and intended to preserve her virginity until marriage.
The resurfaced video has struck a chord with many Nigerians, who described it as a heartbreaking reminder of the young woman’s dreams and aspirations. Many social media users said the interview has further amplified public sympathy for her family while reigniting conversations about sexual violence, consent and the protection of women.
Agbro died under controversial circumstances after she was allegedly sexually assaulted. The Delta State Police Command has identified the prime suspect as 40-year-old Ifeanyi Ogbonna, an Asaba-based content creator and boutique owner popularly known as “Odogwu of Asaba.”
According to police, investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Reports indicate that following the alleged assault, Agbro became severely distressed and reportedly ingested a harmful substance. She was taken to hospital for treatment but later died.
The case has continued to generate national attention, particularly after alleged WhatsApp conversations and text messages believed to have been exchanged between Agbro and the suspect surfaced online. The messages reportedly showed the nursing student pleading for assistance and medical intervention during her final hours, further fueling public outrage.
The resurfacing of her earlier interview has added another emotional dimension to the case, with many Nigerians describing the contrast between her hopes for the future and the circumstances surrounding her death as deeply tragic.
Meanwhile, the Agbro family has appealed for support as they continue to seek justice for their daughter.
Speaking through their pro bono counsel, Barrister Awele Ideal, members of the family disclosed that they are struggling with about ₦7 million in outstanding medical bills incurred while doctors fought to save Favour’s life.
Her father also alleged that investigators requested logistical support, including transportation, to enable police officers visit hospitals in Benin City, Edo State, where Favour reportedly received treatment before her death.
The Delta State Police Command has assured the public that the investigation will be thorough, transparent and impartial, promising that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.
Civil society organisations and women’s rights advocates have also pledged to closely monitor the case, insisting that the investigation must be comprehensive and that justice should be served for the late nursing student.
As investigations continue, the resurfaced interview has become a powerful symbol of the life Favour Agbro hoped to live, with many Nigerians saying it reinforces the urgency of ensuring accountability in the case surrounding her death.
