National Assembly seeks urgent meeting with Labour leaders
The Senate of the Nigerian National Assembly on Wednesday requested for an urgent meeting with the leaders of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to deliberate on the ongoing indefinite strike in the country.

Leaders of the Organised Labour
The House of Representatives had earlier on Wednesday indicated readiness to intervene in the industrial dispute in order to alleviate the hardship on Nigeria citizens.
The Senate, expressing concerns over the socio-economic consequences of the national strike, appealed to the Organised Labour to immediately suspend the strike in the national interest.
The senators, accordingly, passed a resolution mandating the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and other leaders to immediately convene a meeting with the NLC/TUC.
Senator Adams Oshiomole condemned the brutality of the police against people during mass protest; and subsequently urged the Senate to disapprove acts of brutality of protesters of the Federal Government.
Oshiomole, a former NLC President, recalled his experience of brutality by the police as an activist.
The Senator enjoined the government to honour its obligation and ensure agreements reached are implemented and ensure that the 35 per cent is upheld.
He further urged the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, “to fish out all the perpetrators”, arguing that “no one should exert the right to mete out jungle Justice on anyone.”
