Nollywood’s Doris Simeon opens up on painful custody battle with ex-husband

Renowned Nollywood actress Doris Simeon has candidly discussed the emotional turmoil of her protracted custody battle with ex-husband and film producer Daniel Ademinokan.

In an interview with Biola Bayo on Talk to B, Simeon revealed how Ademinokan took their son to the United States without her consent when the child was just four years old, leaving her feeling isolated from her role as a mother.

Reflecting on the incident, Simeon said, “I might have had my faults, and he also had his, but the most painful part was being denied the opportunity to mother my child.” She shared that their son, whom she last saw when he was three, was taken abroad, severing their bond.

Recounting the challenges she faced, she said, “I was calling, but he wouldn’t pick up, and when he did, he’d promise to call back but wouldn’t. This pattern stretched on for months.”

The actress expressed the intense frustration and depression that followed but explained how she remained resilient due to her upbringing. “I was raised by parents who taught us to be strong no matter what life throws at us,” she noted.

The struggle reached a turning point when a comment at a movie premiere prompted court action. “Someone questioned why I hadn’t come to see my son, and that’s when we took the matter to court,” Simeon recounted.
