The Police Command in Ondo State has arrested 32 suspects in connection with a communal clash that claimed two lives and left several others injured in the Iwaro area of Akoko South-East Local Government on Sunday.
CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests to the Press on Tuesday in Akure.
“Yes, 32 suspects have been arrested in connection with the communal clash that occurred in Akoko area on Sunday. All the suspects are in our custody, and investigation is ongoing to unravel the causes of the clash,” Odunlami said.
The communal conflict erupted between youths from the Oka Odo, Ebo, and Owake communities in the Iwaro area.
According to reports, the clash, which began on January 12, 2025, resulted in two fatalities, multiple injuries, and the destruction of homes.
The incident reportedly started when youths from Oka Odo went on a hunting expedition and were allegedly attacked by youths from Ebo.
The Ebo youths, according to reports, mistakenly identified the Oka Odo hunters as members of the Owake community, with whom they have an ongoing land dispute.

In retaliation, Oka Odo youths reportedly mobilized and attacked the Ebo community, resulting in acts of arson.
“The conflict led to casualties on both sides, with two individuals confirmed dead. The injured are currently receiving treatment in the hospital,” Odunlami added.
Following the incident, Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi called for peace and urged all parties involved in the dispute to maintain calm.
“We are working to restore peace in the affected communities and ensure justice,” he said in response to the violence.
The investigation into the causes of the clash continues as the police work to resolve the situation and prevent further violence.
