Fubara accepts Supreme Court verdict on Rivers Assembly Crisis, awaits further clarifications

In a pivotal development in Rivers State’s ongoing political crisis, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has formally acknowledged the Supreme Court’s judgment affirming Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule and 26 others as legitimate members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Despite accepting the Supreme Court’s verdict, Governor Fubara pointed out that the crux of the lawmakers’ disputed status—their defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC)—remains unresolved.

He clarified that since the defection issue was not presented before the Supreme Court, it was not adjudicated upon, and the matter is still pending before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.

“Since the issue of defection wasn’t on the table before the learned Justices, in their eyes, Amaewhule and the 26 others are still operating as lawmakers until that matter comes before them,” the statement explained.

Governor Fubara reassured the people of Rivers State that his administration remains committed to upholding the rule of law and prioritizing the welfare of its citizens.
