Ogun govt urges calm amid flash floods, warns of more rains ahead
The Ogun State Government has urged residents to remain calm and take precautionary measures as the state experiences ongoing flash floods, describing the development as a natural and seasonal occurrence.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, the government assured the public that the situation is under control and advised against panic.
He emphasized the importance of adhering to safety guidelines aimed at protecting lives and property during the peak of the rainy season, which is expected to continue over the next three weeks.
“Flash floods are predictable this time of year, and while they may appear sudden, they usually recede within an hour or two. Residents should stay indoors during rainstorms or seek shelter in safe areas when in transit,” Oresanya advised.

He added that the Community Development Associations (CDAs) across the state have been activated as first responders to handle flood emergencies within their respective communities.
The commissioner also advised residents to promptly contact the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) or the Flood Emergency Management Response Teams in their nearest local government areas in case of any incident.
“As the rains intensify, we want to ensure residents know who to contact and how to act. Preparedness is key,” he said.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to minimizing the impact of the floods and ensuring that citizens are well-informed and protected throughout the rainy season.
