Agbara Nla: The return grosses ₦307.2m, ranks fourth among 2026 Nollywood films
The faith-based film, a remake of Mike Bamiloye’s 1993 production, has surpassed ₦307.2 million at the Nigerian box office, according to its distributor, Nile Group.
Nollywood faith-based film Agbára Ńlá: The Return has grossed more than ₦307.2 million at the box office, making it the fourth-highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2026, according to its distributor, Nile Group.
The distributor announced the milestone in an Instagram post on Friday, October 16, 2026, thanking audiences for supporting the film. It also described the production as the highest-grossing Nollywood title ever released in October.
The latest figure represents a significant increase from the more than ₦170.6 million the film reportedly earned during its preview screenings and opening weekend.
According to Premium Times, the film generated approximately ₦71.4 million from preview screenings ending on October 1, before earning another ₦99.2 million between October 2 and 4. The combined four-day gross was approximately ₦170.6 million.
Released in Nigerian cinemas on October 1, Agbára Ńlá: The Return revisits the story of the original 1993 Christian film created by veteran filmmaker Mike Bamiloye.
The new production was directed by Bamiloye’s sons, Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua “Jay Mikee” Mike-Bamiloye, bringing the story to a new generation of cinema audiences more than three decades after the original release.
Mike Bamiloye reprises his role as Isawuru, the powerful herbalist at the centre of the story, which explores the confrontation between Christian faith and traditional spiritual power.
The film’s opening performance had earlier attracted attention after Nile Group reported more than ₦170.6 million in earnings during its first four days in cinemas. The distributor described the opening as a record for a Nollywood film released outside December and for a faith-based production.
The latest box-office milestone places the film among the leading Nollywood releases of the year, although the ranking is based on figures reported by the distributor and entertainment news outlets.
The film’s performance also demonstrates the commercial potential of faith-based Nigerian productions within the cinema market, though its long-term performance will depend on continued audience attendance and its subsequent theatrical run.
