Dangote cuts petrol, diesel prices again to boost affordability, economic activity
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has announced another reduction in the ex-depot prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly referred to as diesel, in a move aimed at easing fuel costs for consumers and supporting business activities across the country.
Under the latest pricing adjustment, the refinery reduced the ex-depot price of petrol to N1,250 per litre from N1,275 per litre, representing a N25 reduction per litre. The price of diesel was also lowered significantly from N1,800 per litre to N1,700 per litre, reflecting a N100 reduction per litre.
The latest review underscores the refinery’s ongoing commitment to improving affordability, enhancing domestic fuel supply, and supporting economic growth through more competitive pricing of refined petroleum products.
The price reduction is expected to provide some relief for fuel marketers, transport operators, manufacturers, small businesses, and households that rely heavily on petroleum products for daily operations.
Diesel, in particular, remains a critical source of energy for industries, factories, commercial enterprises, and institutions that depend on alternative power generation due to challenges in electricity supply. A reduction in diesel prices could therefore help lower operational costs for many businesses.
Similarly, the reduction in petrol prices is expected to influence transportation costs and potentially ease inflationary pressures associated with the movement of goods and services across the country.
Industry observers say the latest adjustment reflects increasing stability in domestic refining operations and could contribute to improved market competition within Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
Economic analysts believe the latest price reductions could have positive implications for several sectors of the economy.

Lower diesel prices may help manufacturers reduce production costs, while transport operators could benefit from lower operating expenses. Businesses that rely on generators for electricity may also experience some cost savings.
For consumers, any reduction in fuel prices is often welcomed because of its potential impact on transportation fares and the prices of goods and services, although the extent of such benefits will depend on market dynamics and distribution costs.
The development is also expected to strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s domestic refining industry, particularly as local production increasingly competes with imported petroleum products.
The Dangote Refinery has emerged as a major player in Nigeria’s energy landscape since it began refining operations, supplying petrol, diesel, aviation fuel and other petroleum products to the local market.
The facility, regarded as one of the largest single-train refineries in the world, has been positioned as a strategic asset for addressing long-standing challenges in Nigeria’s downstream sector, including fuel import dependence and supply disruptions.
Industry stakeholders believe that as production volumes continue to increase and operational efficiencies improve, additional pricing benefits could emerge for consumers and businesses.
The latest reduction in ex-depot prices further signals the refinery’s intention to leverage its scale and capacity to support domestic energy needs while contributing to economic growth through more affordable and reliable fuel supply
