Paul Okoye Reflects on P-Square Era, Says Solo Career Offers More Freedom
Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has reflected on his transition from the music group P-Square to a solo career, describing life as a solo artist as less stressful and offering greater creative control.
In an interview with Lun Lifestyle TV, the singer said his transition was relatively easy because he had already been responsible for songwriting, production and singing during his time with the group.
According to him, pursuing a solo career allowed him to continue doing what he had always done musically, but with fewer disagreements and greater freedom to make creative decisions.
“Transitioning into a solo artist was less stressful for me. Because it was the same me that was doing everything in the group, with due respect. I am the producer, writer, and singer,” he said.
He added that although he still works with a team, being a solo artist means he has greater control over his music and does not have to deal with the same level of internal questioning over his decisions.
“Inasmuch as I have a team, nobody is going to question me. I have more creative control. It is easy for me,” he added.
P-Square, the twin-brother duo comprising Paul and Peter Okoye, has experienced two major breakups, first in 2017 and again in 2024, following their reunion in 2021.
Despite the group’s history of separation and reunion, Paul’s comments highlight his preference for the independence and flexibility that come with pursuing his career as a solo musician.
