John Cena fuels retirement speculation with statement – I’m too old
John Cena fuelled recent retirement rumours once again as he insists he can no longer work as a full-time wrestler because he is too old and the WWE is a “young man’s game”.
Cena has been working on a part-time basis with WWE as he is now 41 years old and is following in the footsteps of fellow WWE legend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in Hollywood.
The Champ’s most recent match took place at WWE Super Show-Down in Australia where he teamed up with Bobby Lashley and defeated Kevin Owens as well as Elias in a Tag Team Match.
After the bout, the 16-time world champion picked up a microphone and told the packed crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground that he doesn’t know what the future holds.
Cena said: “I have no idea what the future holds so I focus on the now.
Cena once again didn’t deny all of the retirement speculation as he told The Blast that even though he is in the best condition of his life he can no longer keep up with WWE’s strenuous schedule.
The ex-WWE Champion insists he will never leave the promotion but he can’t wrestle forever as he has to think about his long-term health.
He said: “I feel the most healthy I’ve ever felt in my life.
“I’ve dropped 20lbs, I’ve learned some stretching techniques over at China and my body actually feels great.
“But full disclosure, I can’t run at the full demanding schedule at 41 years old that current WWE superstars do. They go every day all the time and it is a young man’s game.
“I think there’s some folks out there that certainly, because of what I’ve said and done in the past, who are like, ‘You’re hypocritical’.
“I’m not, I’m old guys. I’m old. I’m 41 and performing 310 times a year isn’t what’s best for my overall health.
“I want to be able to run the streets at 80 [years old] instead of hobbling around.
“So I’m at a point in my life where I kinda gotta think what would be more long-term.
“That doesn’t mean I’m leaving the WWE. I’ll never leave the WWE. It’s my home. But I have to think about my overall and long-term health.”u
Cena recently posted a message on Twitter that had fans scrambling to know if he was retiring.
He tweeted “Nothing lasts forever. When doing something you love make sure to be present and enjoy it.
“That way if and when it ends, you can look back with fond memories instead of regret.”
