Ibramovich: Jose will win the EPL with Utd
- backs the Portuguese to keep hold of his job after a shaky start
Zlatan Ibrahimovic insists Jose Mourinho is the right man to lead Manchester United to another Premier League title.
United have endured a difficult start to the season, losing three of their opening eight league games and being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Championship side Derby County.
Mourinho is under heavy-pressure, with his side under-performing and currently carrying a negative goal difference.
Already they are five points off the other members of the so-called ‘Big Six’ and seven off the top of the table.
Mourinho, who is waiting to hear if he will be charged by the FA for allegedly swearing in Portuguese at a TV camera after the Newcastle win, has also been at loggerheads with a number of players, including wantaway Paul Pogba.
He is due to meet Ed Woodward in London this week for further showdown talks, with his long-term future far from secure at Old Trafford.
However Ibrahimovic, who fired 28 goals in Mourinho’s debut season at United to lead the club to a Europa League and League Cup double, feels that parting with the Portuguese would be foolish.
And he has called on United’s players to show more, stating Mourinho can’t perform “miracles” if his stars are under-performing.
“I think he has the ability to win [the Premier League]” said the Swede, speaking to BetHard. “I think he is the right coach for that club, for that team.
“But a coach is only as good as his team, so it’s not like he can do miracles if the team is not good enough.
“And I feel the team is good – it’s progressing, becoming better. This is his third year, the players know more and more the way he wants to play and how he wants it – so I believe, yes.”
